We recognize the importance of social responsibility that every company has in the communities in which it operates. PLM and its employees are especially passionate about giving and are proud of the culture of caring we have established within the organization. This is reflected in our year-round volunteer events, fundraising activities, and the generosity of our employees, not only with their time but also with their monetary giving.
Each year, PLM hosts a month-long United Way Campaign, the cornerstone of our giving program, to support local charities and the United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey Impact Fund. Year-after-year, we achieve 98+% participation in the campaign with PLM employees pledging donations to the United Way and the charitable organizations near and dear to their hearts.
Many of our employees also participate in different volunteer activities throughout the year in Philadelphia, Indianapolis and Boca Raton. They donate their time working at various charitable organizations such as Starfinder Foundation, ASPCA, Ronald McDonald House, MANNA, Cradles to Crayons, Outley House Shelter, CROS Ministries, Fireman’s Hall Museum and Riley Hospital for Children. Whether it is cleaning cages at an animal shelter, cooking meals, making care packages or painting walls, our employees are engaged and eager to learn more about the organization’s mission, and grateful to give back to their communities.
PLM further supports this culture of caring by matching dollar-for-dollar for all employee giving. As an organization, we also provide sponsorship support towards the future of insurance education and the promotion of the wood industry. We support the Insurance Society of Philadelphia, Gamma Iota Sigma, The Institutes and The CPCU Society to help build the next generation of insurance leaders.
PLM also provides sponsorships and education for many lumber and wood-related associations. We support groups like NLBMDA and The Hardwood Federation that represent the voice of the industry and advance the legislative interests of the lumber and wood industry.
For the past several years, we have partnered with Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School through their Work-Study Program. Cristo Rey is an independent college preparatory school for students who cannot otherwise afford a private education, that nurtures and challenges young women and men to recognize and realize their full potential. We are pleased to be involved with this program by employing a number of its students to receive real work experience and exposure to the insurance industry. Their youth and enthusiasm has added another dimension to our organization and given us the opportunity to mentor and develop the future workforce of Philadelphia.
Finally, our ongoing support for the NAMIC Mutual Insurance Foundation Scholarship Program helps to support a wide variety of career opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds. This foundation scholarship is specifically designed for undergraduate students who plan to pursue a career related to the insurance industry.
