Estimating Snow Loads
With all of the recent winter weather we want to remind you that your clients have full access to our Loss Control Guides. One problem that we continue to come across is how to estimate the snow load on the roof. First one needs to identify the depth of snow at that location. This can be accomplished by using the heights of known rooftop features such as equipment, parapets and penthouses. Pre-marking walls and equipment with elevations or measuring sticks can also facilitate identifying snow depths.
