Operation Highlight – Pallet Manufacturing
Pallet operations fall into a class of business PLM calls Primary or Heavy Manufacturing. These operations manufacture and assemble wood pallets, platforms designed to facilitate the storage and transportation of goods.
One of the main by-products of pallet manufacturing is sawdust, which requires good housekeeping protocols in place to prevent smoldering embers turning into a devastating fire.
If a fire starts, the combustion of dry, stacked wood can quickly grow out of control due to the column of air that flows freely through its center. This is why stacked pallets need to be kept a distance away from other structures – to prevent a far more costly disaster.
PLM requires more lead time (3-4 weeks minimum) with Primary Manufacturing operations before a quote can be offered. This is due to loss control and field representative site visits to ensure to the underwriter that the proper housekeeping and safety standards are met.
What about Pallet Recycling Operations? What if my submission doesn’t work for PLM?
Sometimes a pallet operation can fall outside of PLM’s underwriting appetite for different reasons – such as being too large or being mainly a recycling operation vs. new manufacturing. Through Allied Building Material Agency, Inc. (ABM), you can still find a home for your client.
As our in-house brokerage, ABM works to round out accounts through its growing programs for all lines of business. Just send everything to one place – if there’s sawdust, it’s us!
