Every year, PLM hosts a month-long United Way Campaign for our employees to give back to their local communities through donations, fundraising activities and volunteer events. With the pandemic, our campaign could not go forward as usual, but had to evolve into a virtual undertaking. What resulted was more successful than any of us imagined, dispelling any fears of the effects of the pandemic on our employees’ dedication to charitable giving. The PLM family stepped up in a big way, especially during this time when many in our communities are experiencing great need.
An incredible 99 percent of PLM employees took part in the campaign with a total pledge of $82,779.11, about $7,000 more than the previous year. After the company match and additional donations from the various fundraising events, our United Way Campaign 2020 raised nearly $180,000.
Throughout the month of October, PLM hosted several virtual fundraising activities to encourage employee giving, including Family Bingo Nights over Zoom, a football pool, and a Halloween Costume and Pumpkin Carving Contest. The United Way Committee also sold a PLM Cookbook, a collection of recipes submitted by employees, as everyone found themselves cooking more at home during the pandemic. All the fundraising activities were a fun way for our staff and their families to raise money together for our neighbors in need.
An important element missing from our campaign this year was our participation in volunteer events. As a company, we believe we have a responsibility to give back and support the organizations servicing communities across the country not only through monetary giving, but also through giving our time. Our hope is in this new year, our employees can get back out there to engage in different volunteer activities in the many communities across the country represented by our diverse team.
We are proud of how our employees have once again demonstrated their dedication to giving and for making a lasting impact on those in need throughout our communities.
