We’re very excited to unveil our latest video from our new blog series titled “Insights from the Top: 3 Questions with PLM Leaders.” Every month, we’ll feature a different member of our leadership team, offering their perspectives on industry trends and the crucial role PLM plays in addressing the needs of the wood niche.
In this month’s edition, we are joined by AVP of Field Operations – Dave Adams
Q: What inspired you to get into field operations?
DA: It’s a pretty interesting story. It’s something that I’ve known that I’ve wanted to do my whole life. The reason is my father had a 35-year career at Indiana Lumbermens, and the majority of that time was spent in field operations..
DA: I watched him over the years. I watched what he did, how he did it, the joy that he had in his job, and it seemed to be very interesting. I naturally had an interest in following in his footsteps. I was very fortunate and blessed when the opportunity came to start my career in insurance and go into field operations. That’s what I’ve done for the past 27 years – 15, in a territory in the last 12 years has been in management. It’s a very challenging job, but it’s also very, very rewarding. Building relationships with our insureds is the best part of it. I’m thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to do as much as I have in my career.
Q: What is the most exciting thing you see about the future of insurance?
DA: I think it’s the technology that’s part of our industry now. Over the last few years, it’s just been incredible. What has come about? The use of AI technology in particular. It’s just about in every area of our business: claims, underwriting, loss control, customer service, etc. I see that only becoming a bigger role moving forward in the future.
DA: The other exciting part about the future is the connection with the past. This has always been, in my opinion, a relationship business. That’s at the very core of what we do. It’s about a promise that we make to our insureds. We’re going to be there for them at their time of need and it’s the ability for us to do what we say we’re going to do. The relationship part of it really has not changed and I don’t really see that changing moving forward. I think it’s critical to our business.
Q: What’s the best part about working at PLM?
DA: That’s an easy answer – it’s the people at PLM. We work with some of the finest and most dedicated people that I’ve ever known. It’s an extremely diverse and talented group of people. It’s a group of people that’s dedicated to doing their job to the best of their ability. It’s a group of people that know that every one of us is important to the overall success of the organization.
DA: I often get asked when talking to people about starting a career at PLM, “What kind of place is it?” I tell them, “It’s a place that you can make an impact and everybody makes an impact.” It’s a very helpful, very knowledgeable group of folks. It’s almost like a big family.
DA: Also, I do want to point out a very generous group of people. We’re committed to giving back to our community, to giving our time and money and efforts to charities. I’m very proud of that. I’m very proud to be part of this group and have been for 27 years now.
